Membership and Eligiblity

There are different types of Membership categories listed below along with its membership payment details. Please check from below categories.
Requirements for membership admittance
  • Individuals having a degree/Experts in Culture, Tourism, History, Folklore, Linguistics & Literature, History or ICT, Computer Science & Engineering and others from a recognized University;
  • Motivated to contribute to the development from a Language, Culture, Tourism and/or Science perspective;
  • Exceptionally motivated senior students of the field with a high potential and interest both to the profession and language & culture development can be accepted case by case;
  • Exceptionally motivated and supportive professionals from other discipline areas can be accepted case by case
  • All members unless indicated pay a yearly membership fee based on membership categories,  student members and members residing in Oromia pay $5 or 300 Birr and qualified students in financial difficulties may apply for free membership and the executive committee can decide case by case.

Full Members:
Full membership are all those who comply with this Constitution, including filling the appropriate application forms, paying the required membership fees, approved by the Executive Board, and who constitute the following:
- is open for those who hold at least a Diploma/Degree/Experts in Languages, Culture, & Societies area.
- Students in in Culture, Tourism, History, Folklore, Linguistics & Literature, History or ICT, Computer Science & Engineering from a recognized University;
- Individuals with Languages, Culture & Society interest and commitment who are nominated by members;
- Institutions and organizations interested, and contributing to, Languages, Culture & Society.
- Full members have the right to elect and be elected to the office of the Association.
Institutional Members:
Institutional Membership is open to any institution who support the objectives of the Association.
- An institutional member has the right, through its representative to participate in the activities of the Association.
- It shall not elect and be elected to the office of the Association.
Honorary Members:
1. Honorary members are individuals who have made outstanding contributions to public health in Ethiopia or to 3A and who, upon being nominated by the Executive Board, are approved by a minimum of two- thirds of those attending a General Assembly.
2. Those who are not members of the charity association and who have contributed greatly to accomplishing the objectives of the charity association; Individuals or organizations who have been highly accepted by the members of the charity association and who have been engaged in the sectors in which the charity works and become effective and role models for change, will be made honorary members by the decision of the general assembly.
3. 3A Board may, at its discretion, induct a Person of Eminence, or, a Person of Outstanding Professional Distinction and contributions to the development of Languages, Culture, & Society, who is not a Member of the Association, and, whose Membership to the Society will add value to the Society, as an Honorary Member.
4. The Person being conferred the Honorary Membership shall be presented with a Certificate which shall be signed by the President and the Secretary General.
5. Honorary members do not have the right to vote in the charity association.
6. Honorary members shall not be obligated to pay membership dues or other fees unless voluntarily so requested.
Associate Members:
Associate Membership is open for those who hold at least diploma in any other discipline.
- Associate members have the right to participate in the activities of the Association but shall not have the right to elect or be elected to the office of the Association.
Student Members:
Student Membership is open for those who are attending school in the areas related to the association in their respective Universities/Colleges or acceptable academic standards.
- Student member has the right to participate in the activities of the Association.
- Student member shall not elect and be elected to the office of the Association.
Life Members:
- Life members are full members who opt to become life members by paying a lump sum membership fee equivalent to 10 years in live of payment of annual fees for the rest of their lives.
- Up on the additional contributions & services, they have high opportunities to be selected as Honorary
- Based on Performances, & Knowledge basis; Life Time member can be selected as Regional/chapter/Ad hoc Committee of the its regions if needed

Rights of members
1. All regular members have equal rights.
2. Membership of a charitable association is a personal right that cannot be transferred to heirs or anyone else.
3. Any regular member of the charitable association:
A. To do any kind of work that is useful for the achievement of the objectives and missions of the charity association.
b. To choose, to be elected and to request and obtain any information about the activity of the charity association.
c. To attend the general assembly meeting, to give opinions and votes about the activities of the charity association, and
d. He has the right to be heard by the Executive Board before a final decision is made to terminate his membership.
Obligations Members:
1. Any WAM member to pay membership dues on time;
2. To pay any debts required of a member prior to his/her termination of membership;
3. Any member to comply with the bylaws of the charity association, the instructions and decisions issued by the general assembly,
4. Every member must comply with the objectives of the charity association and the obligations he/she has entered into, take care of the property of the charity association and provide the expected services.
5. He/she is obliged to attend regular and urgent meetings of the charity association.
Members' contributions and other payments
1. The time and amount of the charitable association's contribution and other payments will be determined by the general assembly.
2. A person who does not pay within the time limit decided by the General Assembly will be fined according to the decision of the General Assembly.
3. The General Assembly may revoke the right to vote or any other right of a member who has not paid the penalty imposed by the General Assembly due to non-payment of membership dues until he/she pays the debt.

Membership Termination
A member of the charitable association whose membership is terminated:
1. When he/she dies,
2. When the general assembly decides to dismiss him/her from membership as stated in the bylaws or for any other satisfactory reason,
3. When it is proved by evidence that he/she spits on an activity that affects or undermines the honor and existence of the charity association and this is decided by the general assembly,
4. When you are not willing to participate properly in the activities for the achievement of the purpose of the charity association and when this is decided by the general assembly,
5. When he/she is dismissed from the membership by the General Assembly for not paying the contribution for a period of one year,
6. When he/she is deprived of his/her ability or rights or removed from membership by a competent court;
7. When he/she requests in writing to leave the membership of the charity association with his/her own consent,
